When it comes to deciding which stove you are going to have, it is important to remember that you need to have the correct grade of stainless steel liner fitted too. The two options for solid fuel are 316 and 904. A 316 graded steel liner is suitable for burning just wood, so would be best suited for a wood-burning stove. Where as a 904 grade liner would be best suited for a multi-fuel stove, this is because it is stronger so has more durability when burning fossil fuels. Despite this you can fit a 904 liner to a wood-burning stove. However you cannot fit a 316 liner to a multi-fuel stove as it is unable to cope with the deposits from burning fossil fuels, which will result in corrosion and possible fire + health risks. Here is an example of what burning fossil fuels through a 316 grade liner looks like (See picture below), it is thought that the liner had been installed roughly around 2 years ago.

When having any wood-burning/multi-fuel stove fitted, make sure the installer is HETAS registered so you know it has been fitted correctly and to a high standard.
